Hurricane Season

Hurricane Gustav stayed to the west of us but we had heavy rains and winds yesterday and last night due to the outer bands of the storm. We are keeping our eyes on hurricane Hanna which is coming up next. As of right now it looks like she will miss us too. I will be grateful when hurricane season ends.

Mighty lobster hunter...

We feasted on surf and turf tonight...thanks to drew...the mighty lobster hunter.
Actually...we all just got one bite each of the tail. It was tasty though.

Drew and his coconuts....

Drew cracking open coconuts from my parents palm trees.

We made it....

Yeah!!!!
We made it.
I didn't have my baby on the side of a highway.
It took Marlow 2 seconds to adjust to island life. I think he will like it here.

Day Three: Ocala to Key West

Marlow sees his first island chicken at a gas station in Marathon.
He is VERY excited.

Day Two: Baton Rouge to Ocala, Fl.

Day one: Austin to Baton Rouge, LA.

It was sad saying goodbuy to our ghetto home in Austin. It might not have been much, but it was our first home together. We made it to Baton Rouge tonight after turning down several Motel 6's. One was actullay located between a casino and a strip club. We were scared we would never find a dog friendly motel that felt safe enough to stay in. Luckily we found one and we ordered chinese food to the room. Marlow is being a good boy. He has no clue whats going on, but is excited to spend so much time with us.

On the road....

We are leaving right now. I doubt Motel 6's have wifi so expect pictures of the journey once we arrive. Keep your fingers crossed that I don't give birth to this baby on the side of a highway. We should be safely in the keys by Wednesday.

Moving sucks.....hard.

Oh boy...

You can’t really tell from this photo, but these are the tiniest swimming trunks in the whole wide world. They are for 0-3 months and I had to have them. All summer stuff is on sale now, and I know that my little son will get use out of these in his first 3 months of life. The little hammer head shark hat is to protect his little bald head when he goes fishing on Pa’s boat.

Office Space

This has been my view 5 days a week for two years. Its been painful working in a space with no windows. Its only been bearable because of the great people that work here. They will be missed. I only have two days left and I will be a free woman. My belly and I can’t wait to be on “island time”.

25 weeks

We are at 25 weeks.
If the baby were delievered at this time it would have a good chance of survival. (whew)
The baby will also begin to prefer his left or right hand at this time. (crazy)

I am feeling good. My only complaint is daily back pain. It’s always in the same spot in the middle of my back to the left of my spinal cord. I think the baby is pushing on a nerve, or it’s just my back compensating for the weight of my new round belly. Its aggravated by sitting down all day at work. I am SO excited that I only have three days left at my office.

Also, check out my baby sling that my parents bought for me (thanks mom and dad!). It is soft and embroidered and I love it. I especially can’t wait to be carrying a baby around in it.

We haven’t 100% decided on a name, but I have been calling my belly…Owen an awful lot lately.

24 weeks

My belly is at 24 weeks. Baby now weighs over a pound and mama has put on 13 pounds since the beginning of the pregnancy. It has been crazy hot here for a very long time. Drew has been earning some extra money before we leave by fixing up a rent house down the street that was trashed by the previous tenants. In the pictures above he is watering Marlow not the grass. As you can see our grass is beyond repair. This has been a record-breaking summer for heat, and its not even September yet. September is when Texas usually gets it hottest temps. I am so glad in a few weeks I will be headed towards an island breeze.
Drew and I went to our childbirth class. I’m relieved that we have it under our belt, but it was really nothing that I didn’t learn from my pregnancy books. The only really great thing about it was them showing drew how to massage me and calm me down. That rocked. We were the only people in the class that are trying to attempt a natural childbirth with out drugs. We were the crazy hippies.

Key West Rickshaw

Drew and I have been debating over what items to take with us and what items to store. I want to bring our bikes because it is much easier to get around Key West on your bike then it is by car. Especially once the season starts and the tourists arrive. Drew feels I am WAY to pregnant to ride a bike (I can’t wait to show him the picture of Justina surfing at 30 weeks), and wants to rig up a rickshaw to drive my pregnant butt around the island. Key West is full of pedi-cabs…. none as cool as the one shown above. I must say that I would feel pretty fancy if rode in one as pretty as the one above.

Happy Friday

Enjoy your weekend. Drew and I have our child birth classes on Saturday and a Great Dane meet up on Sunday. I will try to remember to take pictures. See you on Monday.
